Salt Therapy (Halotherapy)

Halotherapy, also known as dry salt therapy  is a holistic approach that mimics the micro climate of a salt cave. Dry salt air is dispersed into an enclosed environment  (room, bed, booth, cabin) through a unique process generated by a halogenerator. This type of treatment is a safe and effective way of using salt’s natural antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and super absorbent properties to provide relief for respiratory and skin conditions.

When you heat salt, it becomes super dry, and kinetically more active. This heated and dry pure sodium chloride is then crushed into micro-sized particles and dispersed into the air in an enclosed environment. When micro-particles of dry salt is inhaled into the respiratory system, it does its job by absorbing and removing allergens, toxins and foreign substances in your lungs and throughout your respiratory tract while offering help with cystic fibrosis.  Salt also reduces any inflammation and opens airway passages making it easier to breathe. 70% of the fluid that leaves our body leaves through our lungs.  This is a clear indication as to how important lung health really is.

When should Halotherapy be avoided?

Halotherapy is a safe and natural treatment, however, clients who have any serious health conditions or women who are pregnant should always seek proper medical advice from a doctor first. Halotherapy is not recommended for people who have the following conditions: infections associated with a fever, contagious diseases, cancer, Tuberculosis, cardiac disease patients. acute respiratory disease, severe hypertension, chronic obstructive lung diseases and intoxication.

Are there any side effects?

Normally, there are no side effects. Some people might experience a scratchy throat or a tickle in their sinuses. Others who might be slightly more sensitive could experience a minor skin irritation, which tends to go away after a session or two. For those who experience a slight cough, this is a sign that the salt therapy is effectively working. The body is loosening and releasing all the mucous buildup.

What kind of salt is used?

99.99% pure sodium chloride (pharmaceutical grade salt). It contains no fillers or caking agents. It does come from a natural source, but it is naturally processed to remove all of its impure elements. We do not recommend Himalayan or sea salt as it is not stripped of all the impurities. These types of salt can contain dirt, clay or other types of debris that could be harmful to the lungs.

How often should Halotherapy treatments be done?

Halotherapy offers the best results when practiced regularly. The benefits are accumulative where consistency and frequency is key. People with chronic issues will benefit greatly if visiting salt rooms at least 3-4 times a week. Those who are looking to incorporate Salt Therapy into their regular wellness routine would benefit from a weekly session. Halotherapy is safe to use on a daily basis, if desired.
